Dear Nixon Families,                                                                                                              

Welcome back returning families and a big WELCOME to all new families to an exciting 2011-2012 school year. My name is Mae Lovgren, and this is my second year as PTA President. It is an honor and joy to serve as President due to the amazing partnership we have with Ms. Ortiz and the entire staff, the dedication of the executive board, and most importantly, the continuous support of the Nixon parents and families.

This year more than ever, PTA needs your help. With the state budget crisis, PTA support is more critical than ever before. The PTA raises funds to provide a wide range of educational enrichment programs for the students.Money raised through PTA membership and our main fundraiser in October help to fund class trips, assemblies, healthy-choice education, parent night education, and much, much more. This year we are excited to help start the Accelerated Reading Program that will use technology to enhance literacy skills.

PTA has been going strong at Nixon since 1987. We are here to help you, our teachers and school, and especially our children.  With that in mind, we continue our goal to "Engage, Educate, and Encourage All to Get Involved". Through this, we can achieve our children's educational goals, encourage them to make healthy choices, and continue to build our community. 

Many parents feel that they cannot participate in the PTA because they cannot come to meetings or be on campus during the day. We want everyone to feel that they are part of the Nixon Community. Whether you have 30 minutes or a couple of hours, your ideas, your time, and your talents are truly needed. We can match your time availability and interests to needed tasks. There are endless possibilities in ways you can help.

Here is how to start:

ENGAGE:  Be a PTA member. With only a $10 membership fee you and your family can be active members. Click here to join now.

EDUCATE:  Go online to our website nixonacademy.org and look up the different events where you can help. Speak to other volunteers or Board Members and find ways that you can get involved. ASK. ASK. ASK.

ENCOURAGE:  Be a team player. Acknowledge each other and get to know each other. Don't be shy. Ask for help. Say thank you a lot. Encourage our teachers and staff. Encourage each other as parents. Most of all, encourage your children.

We rely on volunteers to assist us with all of our scheduled events, and the children love to see their parents and family participating at school. It's through the support of the Nixon parents and families that we are able to continue to strengthen our school community and develop the amazing experience in education for our kids.
